The 4th, 5th, and 6th graders showed off their excellent English speaking skills today at the first Showa Elementary School English Speech Contest. The 4th graders auditioned in January, and those who passed spoke in today’s speech contest. They read the story titled “Sad Sam” in groups; it was a story they had learned in English class. The 5th and 6th graders all auditioned in class, and those had excellent speeches read individually about their dream or about Japanese culture. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place were awarded to the 4th graders; and another 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place were awarded to the 5th and 6th graders as a whole. Many of the students read with great expression and gestures to help convey the meaning of their speeches clearly. We look forward to next year’s contest as well!

Today we had the first Showa Gakuin Elementary School English Speech Contest. In preparation, 1st through 3rd graders who wanted to participate took part in an audition last January. Those who passed went on to the speech contest. All the students read stories that they had been learning in English class. 1st graders read from “Ten Things,” 2nd graders read from “The Spider’s Web,” and 3rd graders read from “Sad Sam.” The English teachers and the principal graded each speaker and awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes to each grade. Students practiced not only reciting the story, but using expressions and gestures to make the story more interesting for the audience. We hope lots of students will try out again next year!

２月１７日の給食 NEW
１７日は、２年生と４年生の給食の日でした。自分たちでしっかりと用意して、おいしくいただきました。昨日の２年生のメニューは、チキンカツ・ひじき五目煮・青菜入り卵焼き・マカロニサラダ・味噌汁・ごはん、４年生は、牛丼・大根サラダ・お好み焼き・デザートでした。昭和学院小学校の子どもたちは、週２回の給食をとても楽しみにしています。

スキー教室２日目 NEW
スキー教室２日目です。
今日は終日雪が降り寒い一日でしたが、レッスンも本格的になり、初心者チームを含む全員がリフトに乗って
昨日よりも急な斜面に挑戦しました。基礎からきっちり練習したこともあり、
みんなめきめきと上達しました。
レッスン終了後には、雪遊びとして綱引きとそり引きを楽しみました。
今日もみんなケガなく、充実したレッスンを終えられて何よりです。
明日ももう一段階上達して、元気に帰りたいと思います。

スキー教室１日目 NEW
待ちに待ったスキー教室１日目を迎えました。
例年よりも積雪量が少ないせいでゲレンデの状態は絶好とは言えませんが、天候はとてもよく、暖かい中で初日のレッスンを大きなケガもなく無事に行うことができました。
スキーが初めてだという子たちはブーツのはき方から習い、久しぶりのスキーだという子たちは徐々に雪の感覚を取り戻していきました。
明日は、午前からのレッスンで今日よりも高度な技術を習得できるチャンスです。ゆっくり休んで明日も頑張ります！
